Quick start guide
Your first step to taming those limbs.
Your Dawn Tracker has arrived! Before jumping into a game, work through the setup below once. Future sessions will be much quicker.
The basic flow: Install SlimeVR → Connect the receiver → Assign body parts → Put on the Trackers → Reset and set body proportions → Start tracking.
Read this overview, then begin with Installing SlimeVR
Get everything ready
- Charged Trackers, your receiver and mounting accessories.
- A USB cable that supports data transfer (included in your set).
- Your device with SlimeVR installed: a computer or Android/Quest headset.
- For PC VR: your headset, controllers and SteamVR.
You can also connect the receiver directly to a headset; installation, connection, assignment and wearing follow the same basic flow. For PC SteamVR, check that your headset and controllers work first. See Installing SlimeVR.
Connect the receiver and turn on the Trackers
- Connect the receiver to your device with a USB data cable.
- Mini 2 series and advanced Lite 2 receivers have external antennas; check that yours is attached. The basic Lite receiver has no external antenna. Place the receiver upright in an open area, with its side facing your play area.
- Turn on the Trackers. Mini Trackers turn on automatically when removed from their dock. For Lite 2, point the Type-C port down and press the left-hand button once.
- Open SlimeVR and check that all Trackers appear in the list.
First use of the Mini 2 series
Put the Tracker in the dock's first slot, closest to the Type-C port/button/logo, then press the button once to activate it.
No Wi-Fi setup or re-pairing needed
Your set is paired at the factory. If setup shows a Wi-Fi page, skip it: Dawn Tracker uses a receiver, not a Wi-Fi connection.
Missing devices? See Connection troubleshooting.
Tell SlimeVR where each Tracker goes
In SlimeVR's tracker assignment screen, select a body part, then tap/double-tap the corresponding Tracker. If you cannot tell which is which, gently move one on its own and see which device is highlighted.
A 6-point set usually covers the chest, waist/hip, both thighs and both lower legs/ankles. For 8-point and 10-point setups, see Wearing positions.
Use stickers or other labels to mark each assignment for next time.
Put them on and set mounting directions
Secure each Tracker to its assigned location. Adjust the straps so they do not slip while moving. Keep matching left and right positions at similar heights, and make sure the front/back/side directions in SlimeVR match how you are wearing them.
Walk, bend your knees or sit down to check for slipping before resetting.
Reset and set your body proportions
- Stand naturally upright, face forward and perform a Full Reset.
- Take a shallow skiing squat and perform a Mounting Reset.
- If you have foot Trackers, also perform a Foot Mounting Reset.
- Check the skeleton preview, then set your body proportions.
Body proportions help map your movements to your body shape. For automatic proportions in PC VR, wear your headset, start SteamVR and check floor height first. For other uses, follow SlimeVR's manual proportion settings.
See Body proportions and calibration for poses and detailed steps.
Open your application and start tracking
For VRChat, check that SteamVR sees SlimeVR's tracker outputs, then enter VRChat and run Calibrate FBT.
SlimeVR resets align tracking to your body; VRChat calibration aligns it to your current avatar. Once both are done, try lifting a leg, sitting down and turning around.
See SteamVR/VRChat setup for PC VR details. On a standalone headset, finish SlimeVR setup, then use your application's connection method.
Useful optional settings
- Chest double-tap reset: Enable Settings → Gesture control → yaw reset in SlimeVR to reset your horizontal direction by double-tapping your chest Tracker.
- Mini 2/Pro magnetometer: Off by default. We recommend enabling it for everyday use unless your environment has a lot of metal, such as a spring mattress. See Using the magnetometer.
- Firmware updates: Normally use the Dawn OTA Update Center for wireless updates, with no extra software to download.
What about next time?
Connect the receiver, turn on the Trackers, put them back on their assigned body parts and perform a Mounting Reset. If assignments and body proportions have not changed, there is no need to set them again.
For breaks, position changes or shifted direction, see Everyday resets.
