4. Troubleshooting

Drift, jitter or incorrect direction

Let's find the problem!

Open SlimeVR's skeleton preview and try lifting a leg, bending your knees and turning. If the preview is correct but the game is not, check game calibration first. If the preview is already wrong, follow the symptoms below.

My whole body faces the wrong direction

For an everyday horizontal shift, try a yaw reset. Enable Settings → Gesture control → yaw reset in SlimeVR, then double-tap the chest Tracker.

For a Full Reset, stand upright and look forward with your head and body facing the same way. Settle into the pose before pressing reset.

If the direction quickly shifts again, check strap slipping, assignments and mounting directions, then perform a Mounting Reset. We recommend enabling the Mini 2/Pro magnetometer for everyday use; leave it off initially around lots of metal, such as a spring mattress. See Using the magnetometer.

My left leg moves the right leg, or my knees bend the wrong way

  1. Check for swapped left/right thigh and lower-leg assignments.
  2. Check secure mounting and similar left/right heights.
  3. Match software front/back/side directions to actual placement.
  4. Perform a Full Reset, then Mounting Reset.

With correct assignments and directions, it is easier to tell whether body proportions need adjustment.

My toes point the wrong way

For foot Trackers, check left/right assignments and mounting, then perform Full Reset, Mounting Reset and Foot Mounting Reset in that order.

Assign lower legs/ankles and feet separately to avoid selecting the wrong part.

My feet slide or float above the floor

Check in this order:

  1. Are the foot Trackers slipping?
  2. Is headset floor height correct?
  3. Are body proportions suitable?
  4. Have you completed Mounting Reset?

After checking these, adjust SlimeVR's foot-slide correction if needed. Secure mounting and correct proportions make correction easier to tune.

My waist tilts when sitting, or my body distorts when crouching

Sit down and check whether clothes or your chair push the waist/hip Tracker. Then compare thigh and lower-leg heights, perform a Mounting Reset and check proportions.

If this happens only with one VRChat avatar, try another and recalibrate. Avatar shape and skeleton settings also affect the pose.

My body rises when bending, but my head position doesn't move

Check the headset's own positional tracking first. In SteamVR, check that it follows forward/backward and up/down movement, then return to SlimeVR.

My movements jitter or feel delayed

Check straps first so loose clothing does not shake the Trackers. Once mounting and connection are stable, gradually increase SlimeVR smoothing.

More smoothing usually looks steadier but can add delay. Adjust a little at a time to find a comfortable balance.

If TPS also drops, motion freezes or devices disconnect, see Connection troubleshooting.

SlimeVR looks fine; only VRChat is wrong

Check actual height and floor height, then run Calibrate FBT in-game. You can recalibrate after changing avatars too. See SteamVR/VRChat setup.

Reset poses are in the Calibration guide. If the problem persists, record the same movement in SlimeVR and the game and contact us.
